ELDOA’s were developed by world renowned osteopath Dr. Guy Voyer from France. ELDOA is a French acronym for “Étirements Longitunaux avec Décoaptation-Articulaire”, which translates to Longitudinal Osteo Articular Decoaptation Stretching, or LOADS.
There is an ELDOA stretch for every single segment of the spine. ELDOA’s are extremely precise and create fascial tension on the vertebra above and below an intervertebral disc in order to open up and create space in that particular joint, or “articulation”.
The spinal ELDOA’s taught at the studio are incredibly effective for posture with many other benefits creating profound results.
Benefits of ELDOA’s:
- Reduced vertebral compression
- Improved posture, muscle tone, joint mechanics, body awareness, blood supply and circulation
- Reduction in pain from bulging or herniated discs
- Relief from referred pain in the arms and legs, hands and feet
- Helps alleviate back and neck pain and stiffness
- Disc hydration
- Reduced effects of scoliosis and arthritis
- Preservation of the health of spinal discs
- Spinal rejuvenation
- Overall well being
Each ELDOA is done typically for one minute. Dr. Guy Voyer’s mandate is that the ELDOA’s help clients become their “own best therapist”. With regular practice (even with just one ELDOA a day), spinal alignment, posture, and function can be improved along with helping to rejuvenate the spine and whole body.
The ELDOA Method has spread worldwide and is transforming the world of back pain. In fact, ELDOA can offer alternatives to medication and surgery. An ELDOA a day truly can keep the Doctor away!
“My personal journey with ELDOA’s started in 2009, and after my first group class, my spine felt so light and spacious, I floated out of class. I had never felt such internal space before. The ELDOA’s were incredibly demanding, but also so grounding and rejuvenating. After my first class, I was hooked.
In January 2011, I jumped on the opportunity to train directly with Guy Voyer when he came to Toronto to teach a 4 day intensive workshop on the ELDOA’s. And it was intense. One day we started at 10 am and finished at 10 pm! It exhausting, and amazing. I took a brief hiatus while I was on maternity leave, and was back at it with weekly privates about 5 months later.
Prior to a dedicated practice of ELDOA’s, I had been stuck in cycles of fixing my back/neck/SI problems by going to my Chiropractor, or Osteopath, or Physiotherapist. My usual cycle was muscles spasm and pain about every 3 to 4 months. Once I started back with a regular practice of ELDOA’s – even just one a day, I went 9 months without seeing any of my practitioners.
My ELDOA practice has also helped reduce the discomfort and tightness from my scoliosis.
The ELDOA’s are an incredible healing modality that enables me to focus on a specific segment of the spine, or segments, as needed with each individual. I have seen the profound results of this work with many clients and myself.” N Piller
“I was seeking the usual benefits from my first ELDOA class, such as better alignment and freer movement. A regular practice delivers that and more. It has been a kind of brain gym for me, noticeably improving my visual-spatial skills (in the rest of my life) and enabling me to move (for the first time) across my body’s mid-line, which opens up a whole new range of options in Pilates and elsewhere. Try spinal rejuvenation, and get a whole raft of unexpected benefits!” K Therriault
“Nicole suggested that ELDOA’s might be of interest to me and I was looking for another form of exercise at the time so I signed up. I had been having major problems with my hips, shoulders, etc. being out of alignment and having to see my chiropractor weekly, in particular to manage the pain. After a couple of classes, I complained to Nicole that my ‘wings’ hurt but I noticed an improvement after the class but I thought it was only apparent to me. But unknown to me, it was very obvious to my chiropractor who contacted Nicole about week six, wanting to know what she was doing with me as he was seeing major changes. My posture had changed dramatically for the better and he needed to know what was causing the change as it was so positive. I still attend every ELDOA class that I can and always feel aligned, stretched and satisfied that I have done something very good for my sixty year old plus body. And I see a lot less of my poor chiropractor!” L Wislon-Orr
